… Next thing I want to try is to get internal USB working so I can connect the built-in keyboard and multicard reader. I plan on installing this “JMT Riser Card M.2 NGFF Key A-E to Dual USB2.0 Extension Cable Card M.2 to USB Expansion Card Converter Cable Desktop USB HUB USB 2.0 Connector Adapter Port Multilier” into the WIFI card slot.

I have confirmed that the “JMT Riser Card M.2 NGFF Key A-E to Dual USB2.0 Extension Cable Card M.2 to USB Expansion Card Converter Cable Desktop USB HUB USB 2.0 Connector Adapter Port Multilier” I linked above indeed works and I spent the last few months trying to figure out an I/O shield. I know I can buy one of those plasticy grid-style custom I/O shields, but I made one out of thin MDF for the time being. I may use it as a template to cut an actual metal blank I/O plate.

Beautiful idea, retro back to the good 'ol days. Two more enclosure suggestions:

  1. Commodore PET – complete with the chicklet keyboard and the CRT
  2. Piece of wood – a la Apple I

Mixing wood with electronics works for me

OK – I bought a blank I/O plate and made the holes. I did this wil a powerdrill and a set of burr tips. Its very sloppy since I freehanded it. I’m confinced if I actually had a mill press, I could make this look very good; a project for the future perhaps.
