Hi, I just ordered a Premier p550, how is freebsd support?

I was planning on doing kernel development for freebsd 15/risc to supplement my online education in cs, even setup another desk for my new computer. mainly kernel development and plenty of user space development including gtk development

how is the freebsd support on the p550 as of feb 4th 2025? ill need:

  • wifi/bt support (I ordered an ax210 for wifi6e/bt… last I checked freebsd only supported bt2.0 or so but its as simple as porting the linux wifi system to freebsd, which is tedious, I dont know about wifi6)
  • linux compatibility through debbootstrap/linux.ko and /compat like systems
  • 3d acceleration in gnome3 but this is somewhat optional
  • how long does it take to build the freebsd kernel on the p550?
  • possible virtualization support (the p550 includes virtualization right?)

also is the premier p550 sensitive? its not going to die on me randomly is it? I got all the recommended parts including the psu

thank you!!

I’m not a FreeBSD hacker, but on the virtualization front, I’ve heard that Ruslan Bukin from FreeBSD community has some success running Linux Guest on FreeBSD on P550:

You should definitely sync up with him if you are interested.
